The Ancient Agora at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens
On-site Laboratory for Archaeological Conservation
June 2014 to August 2014
Supervisor: Maria Tziotziou
Support from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation enabled me to undertake my internship work at the Agora.
During my internship, I was able to conserve a variety of archaeological materials, including metal, stone, ceramic, glass, and charcoal. The bulk of materials that I worked with were metals, and my research project involved lead scrolls. I also took part in conservation education and outreach.
I gained various skills, including:
·Stabilising various fresh archaeological finds, including iron, copper alloy, lead, glass, bone, ceramic and terracotta (both painted and unpainted), and stone
·Stabilising previously conserved archaeological ceramic objects: cleaning, desalinating, consolidating, and joining fragments
·Lifting of delicate objects from site
